SLAY IN THE NAME OF VOGUE

performed by Jocquese Whitfeild

A shape-shifter, Jocquese challenges assumptions of sexual identity in dance as they play with both “masculine” and “feminine” aspects.

Jocquese’s current movement vocabulary revisits the bold, rebellious statements of the 1980’s as expressed through fashion, nightlife, and a love of the abstract.




APOLAKI: OPERA OF THE SCORCHED EARTH

Continuing her mission to celebrate and center precolonial mythologies of the Philippines, Soprano and Sound Artist Micaela Tobin presents a preview of her upcoming experimental opera. APOLAKI tells the story of the God of Sun and War, as a means to discuss larger issues of settler colonialism, decolonization, diaspora, immigration, and climate change. 




Bespoke: The Space Between Words

Bespoke: The Space Between Words involves the transmogrification of sites into safe spaces where the written and spoken word challenge the fringes of reality and experience and can provide comfort  in these confrontations. Interdisciplinary artist and independent curator Michael Anthony García stewards a program of artists wielding the power of poetics, to conjure a space of honesty and peace of mind through artistic synergy.




The Erotics of Reclamation: A Poetry Recital

Performance artist and poet Erika Ordosgoitti and writer and scholar Torrivilla will present a back-to-back poetry reading around the erotics of reclamation. In a dialogue between word and body, this recital is a result of a correspondence between the two artists building upon the poetics of identity, shapeshifting, desire, and loss.
